Tales from a Kentish Garden Prologue In the south-east corner of England, in the county of Kent, very near to France, there is a garden. The garden is attached to a house. Mr and Mrs live in the house; they are very old! Lots of creatures visit the garden. Birds are attracted to the bird-feeder, where they can feast on lots of seeds and balls of fat. The grass lawn provides small insects for birds to hunt, while other birds pick up from the grass seeds dropped by birds on the bird-feeder. The hedges around the garden are safe places for birds to hide. Some of them build nests there, close to places where they can get food for hungry chicks. Mr and Mrs grow some fruit and vegetables in the garden. Blackbirds steal the cherries, while bees love the lavender and the runner bean flowers. There are some dangers in the garden. The jay from the woods across the road sometimes visits, looking for tasty morsels. And there is a fox who occasionally comes at night, ...
